Lego gold mine - bubble top indicator?

Just the thing to turn your kids into little gold bugs - Lego's The Mine (my emphasis):

"Dig for gold deep inside the busy mine!

The Mine is a busy place, full of miners digging for gold! Break up the rock with the big drilling machine and transport it out of the mine with the train. Then load it onto the conveyer belt with the crane and haul it away with the truck! There's even a safe to keep the gold inside. Help the miners find even more gold by blasting with the dynamite! Includes 4 minifigures: crew chief, crane driver, driller and truck driver.

Accessories includes 3 dynamite packs, (1 with a timer), 2 detonators, 2 rocks each containing 6 gold nuggets, 36 small rocks in a selection of colors, 2 gold bars, explosion warning sign, storage box, jackhammer, fence with hazard lights, wheelbarrow, broom, shovel, pickaxe, walkie-talkie and coffee cup."

  2. That is cool.

I haven't had any lego for 20 odd years. It feels good to be able to afford this set without asking mum.

  5. It's the bargain of a lifetime - 6 gold nuggets and 2 gold bars for 70 euros.

The mine will pay for itself in no time! If only some oil baron would loan me the money to buy it up front, I could pay them back with interest...

  6. Unfortunately I just noticed that they neglect to mention the purity of the lego gold nuggets and bars, I guess it's less than 1 ppm.

    Back to the drawing board.

  7. Shows how much more effort it takes to produce gold.

The smart people make paper money, much easier to produce and the population accepts it.

  8. Hat tip to Lego for figuring out an alternative strategy to play the Miners. Given recent track record, might end up being more profitable as well.

  12. For the 1 ton gold coin they must of used all the peoples gold that are held at the Perth Mints depository. Thats fair enough if they did as rarely do people come to pick up their gold or ask for delivery. And it shows to me that yes they do have the gold and the vault is not empty. It can always be melted down or sold off to a rich dude. I am guessing it is worth about $50,000,000.00. Have you thought about selling it on Ebay with no reserve?

  13. coasta: Yeah, but I don't want to rub Canadian Mint's face in it.

anon: We've got $3,500 million in depository, so $50m in the coin is not much.

  14. where are the haul trucks, the procssing plant, inclusive of toxic cyanide, and the essential element - the nerdy geologists?

I like it, its a good start - my only criticism is that it doesn't go far enough! I suppose you can't expect much from a designer who has probably never set foot in a gold mine in his life.
